We added 40 hz based on the brain research funded by the Dalai Lama on Buddhist Meditation and brain wave frequencies. The research showed that experienced monks at the peak of meditation have dominant brain waves at 40 hz.  Later we discovered that German research showed that gentle 40 hz stimulation can trigger lucid dreaming.   As we learned more it seemed obvious that 40 hz needed to be added to the standard set of relaxation device frequencies for many reasons …

If you read the article there are many reasons to expect that 40 hz may be more effective at deep relaxation as well as meditation.

In the Standard setting, the machine uses a natural brain frequency of 40 hertz which is the Gamma brainwave frequency of a healthy brain.  40 hz brainwaves are associated with meditation.  The study below shows that German researchers were able to trigger lucid dreams using 40hz applied to the forehead.  Some purchasers are experimenting with this application.  The harmonizer is mainly meant for relaxation and stress reduction without drugs.   It can also be used to assist with learning meditation.  It may or may not induce lucid dreaming … open to amateur self experimenters.   We have no feedback yet on this application.  We encourage experimentation and collaboration.   There are no other Bob Beck type relaxation devices offering 40 hertz.

Intrinsically Safe Design

In over a century of use worldwide since 1902, this type of low intensity AC stimulation has never caused a single injury.   We are maintaining the same power and voltage levels as are normally used in consumer devices to guarantee safety.

Special Case Cautions

People with pacemakers, electronic brain shunts, cochlear implants or other cranially located electronic devices or who are on psychiatric drugs should consult with a physician before use.

Avoid using the harmonzer on any part of the body except the ear lobes.

People who are suffering from MS or Guillain–Barré syndrome should not use the harmonizer. These diseases are characterised by a loss of electrical insulation around the nerves.  Stimulation by a voltage waveform could make symptoms worse by encouraging further insulation breakdown.

Our Mind Body Harmonizer supplies the tool that will allow amateur research to happen.  We want to make The Harmonizer available directly to consumers without prescription.  Throughout the world similar devices have been available without prescription since about 1902.  Similar devices existed in the mid 1800s as well.

The ear clips shown above attach to the earlobes and provide a gentle tingling sensation and stimulation to the lower brain.  Most people find it a pleasant massage effect.

We have done our design based on Bob Beck’s open source designs and through reverse engineering of the waveforms used by as many relaxation devices as we could find. The design we settled on was proven to be effective in the 1980s by the engineer Bob Beck. Bob published his designs as an open source design to encourage experimenters such as us. His device was unregistered and remains in production to this day by several companies in Canada and the USA.  His waveform is also simple to produce and uniquely different in its approach so that there will be no patent conflicts with existing devices.

Helping Scientific Research Studies

Our waveform experiments are open source.  The Harmonizer is based on a small computer which can be programmed for other waveforms.  Researchers can request special wavefroms if they purchase 10 or more units. We are making our standard waveform designs public domain.   This will help researchers to fully understand what they are doing and also opens up the discussion of “effective waveforms” to other product designers  too.  It should be noted that therapists outside the medical community such as Psychologists are currently using consumer based relaxation devices in their practices.

Future Blog for Experimenters

This is a WordPress site and a blog will be added so that researchers and users can talk to each other and share experimental results.   When amateur testers have results these results can be posted here too. This blog can be customized to suit the needs of researchers.

Consumer Freedom

We are making the Mind Body Harmonizer available to consumers for relaxation, concentration, meditation and stress management.   We would rather that the stimulatory relaxation technology remains prescription free in Canada just like it is in Europe and Asia. The effects are open to discovery by your testing. We hope that users will report new applications that they discover it is useful for.

The Harmonizer is partly robot assembled on Vancouver Island but finished & tested by hand.

A General Public Licence GPL3 applies to the waveform shown in the open source waveform section.

About

Ian Soutar, inventor of the Mind Body Harmonizer, worked for the National Research Council in Ottawa instrumenting solar energy collection systems from 1984-1985. He founded Microsec R&D in 1986 to provide product design services for inventors and industry. He is partners with another inventor Ed Haslam and both do microcontroller based product designs. They have been granted 6 patents for unique designs.

Currently Microsec R&D Inc. is doing manufacturing of their own products for relieving stress and helping with relaxation, and to promote healing through pulsed magnetic fields or PEMF.
